Affordability
Affordability
Help residents manage the high cost of living by keeping the City’s residential property tax increases at 0% until 2026.
Provide residents 65 years or older with a property tax rebate of $420 if their household income is lower than $60,000.
Reduce property taxes for small businesses by 15%, add support for local entrepreneurs and start-ups.
Provide a free outdoor learning program at City parks for children aged 6-12 during the months of July and August.
Remove the fee for drop-in swim or skates at City facilities for children aged 12 or under.
The cost of living in Mississauga is soaring. Home prices have more than doubled over the last decade, the cost of rent went up 10% in 2023 alone, and the cost of food and everyday essentials continues to climb. Young professionals looking to call Mississauga home, seniors looking to age in place, families with kids like mine, we are all feeling the price of everything go up and there does not seem to be any relief.
A lot of people are going to be renewing their mortgages in 2024 and 2025 at a higher interest rate than they’re paying now — this is adding anxiety and pressure to family budgets that are already being squeezed.
I have a plan to take on the affordability crisis in Mississauga, providing relief to everyone who calls Mississauga home, while stabilizing costs moving forward.
Housing
Housing
Build missing middle housing and add density in key core areas.
Create policies and programs for families who cannot afford to live in homes at market prices.
Allow homes on underutilized lands to better support the housing needs of our residents.
Get homes approved faster by leveraging streamlined processes and increasing planning capacity.
Call on all levels of government to make it easier to build more homes.
When I was growing up in Mississauga in the 1990s, it was normal for average families to be able to buy a four-bedroom home. Times have changed. Today, the average price of a detached home is more than $1.4 million in our City. Even if a family is able to come up with a downpayment, their monthly housing costs are close to $10,000 at today’s mortgage rates. That is the stark reality of buying a home in Mississauga in 2024.
On top of that Mississauga has the fourth highest rents in the country, with the average two-bedroom apartment going for over $2,700 a month.
Looking at those numbers, it’s no surprise our kids and grandkids are telling us they cannot see a future where they can afford to live here.
This is our moment to take action. This is our moment to make the right decisions to build a City that works for everyone.
Transit & Getting Around
Transit & Getting Around
Build a rapid transit grid across the city, and invest in more buses and operators to improve service and reliability.
Connect the Hurontario LRT with a brand new Dundas East LRT allowing passengers to go from City Centre to Kipling station in Toronto with ease, convenience and comfort.
Identify areas throughout the city that could be pedestrianized with minimal impact to traffic flows.
My transit plan is all about Moving Mississauga. I will build on our existing and planned transit projects and fill in the gaps to create a transit system that connects Mississauga’s vibrant communities. My vision is for a connected network of rapid transit options that will allow Mississaugans to move around our City and provide more options to connect to Toronto’s transit system.

Public Safety
Public Safety
Create a municipal task force to fight auto thefts and work with other levels of government to crack down on crime in our neighbourhoods.

Biographie
I’m Alvin Tedjo and I'm running to be your Mayor here in Mississauga.
The story of my life in Mississauga starts when I was four years old. My parents immigrated here from the other side of the world in search of a better life and a brighter future for their family. My wife Rebecca and I chose to do the same when we rooted our family in Mississauga. My candidacy is inspired by the stake I have in our community, and one that I know is shared by so many others, to see Mississauga grow and thrive into a place that we can continue to proudly call home.
As Mayor, I will bring the energy and fresh ideas we need to tackle the issues most important to you. I will focus on affordability, building more homes, while ensuring we make Mississauga a better place to live.
