Biographie

Brian is currently employed by and is the former owner of the Cape Breton Business College (CBBC) in Sydney, Halifax, and Dartmouth. CBBC was a family-owned and operated business from 1958 until 2018. Founded by Brian’s late father, Ron MacArthur, Brian and his father graduated over 25,000 graduates at CBBC to date. Brian’s commitment to delivering quality education has helped prepare students for meaningful employment opportunities in Industrial Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and across Canada.

Brian and his wife Leslie are both life-long residents of the Shipyard in Sydney. They have two daughters, Moira and Meghan, who are nurses in Halifax. Brian is highly regarded as a local business leader, though is also well-known as a dedicated community volunteer. Brian has given many years of service as a coach a mentor for local girls’ hockey in Cape Breton and across Nova Scotia. In addition, Brian was a long time volunteer with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Cape Breton County and has championed several rehabilitative programs for youth at risk.

Brian believes his interest in politics stemmed from his grandfather, Judge Neil R MacArthur, who ran for the Conservatives in Cape Breton 1920 and 1933.

Brian is guided by the values of hard work, integrity, and community service. These values were instilled in Brian by his parents, and in turn he has ensured they are passed on to his own family. After 36 years in business, it’s these core values that give Brian the foundation of leadership that will support him in this next challenge - to provide solid, meaningful, practical representation for the residents of Sydney/Membertou.
