Tom Muench is a long-standing senior business, community leader with many accomplishments including being a past elected Municipal councillor in the city of Richmond Hill from 2014 to 2022 (8 years).

Today, as the senior Vice President of Government Affairs for a North American leading Automotive electric vehicle charging parts Manufacturer, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Tom continues his forward-thinking approaches to lead, but government has become a major obstacle with tariffs, disconnected from the needs of residents and out of touch with the business community. In short, it’s time for a culture change in Ottawa where our government and parliament serve to improve the quality of life for residents and the greater Canadian good as opposed to residents working for government.

As demonstrated by Tom’s 2 terms (8 years) as Richmond Hill’s municipal politician, a former profitable small business owner of Voortman Cookies distribution, involvement in senior management for two fortune 200 companies, degreed, and a past professional athlete; performance and success seem to follow Tom.

Today, Canada is at a cross road with a housing affordability crisis, government led high inflation, sovereignty concerns and a question about the direction and future of our great country. Canada needs leadership to build vibrant, economically strong, livable and affordable communities; especially at this time when Canada is in an economic tariff trade war with China and United States.

Tom is well grounded, experienced, diverse and pragmatic about business, and government. As an expert on housing, government sustainability, and business growth, Tom understands the complexities, challenges, priorities, benefits, responsibilities, processes, and roles of government and its impact on inflation / livability. We need a government and local representative that matters in order to nation build at this very conflictual time in Canadian history.

As a former Richmond Hill Councillor, in the 11th largest municipality in Ontario, Tom moved significant legislation to reduce inflation, increase housing supply, improve affordability, protect basic services, reduce gridlock, help the environment and assure community livability while working in a very contentious political environment.

Tom is a local Richmond Hill policy innovator. As the most active growth, green -oriented councillor for 8 years, he was on numerous committees and boards including; The Audit Committee; Economic Development, the Police Road Watch, the Business Industrial Area (BIA), library and Vice Chairman of the Affordability Task Force.

He advanced Richmond Hill’s 10-year official plans to be accountable and be more deliverable. He changed legislation on parkland dedication to offset the 8-year municipal / developer confrontational supreme court of Canada process, changed the Downtown Local Secondary Plan (DLCSP), increased heights and densities in Key Development Areas, and assured asset management plans were quantifiable for city infrastructure for the long term sustainably.

His councillor tenure embraced innovation, dedication, and care throughout all of his challenging budget motions for both the operational ($ 184 million) and capital budgets ($ 1.3 billion).

Beyond Tom’s well-versed experience with process, planning and serving Ontario housing needs chapter follows successful business careers. His current role as V.P. Government relations has him interacting with governments and politicians across north America. He ran Voortman Cookies distribution in York Region and parts of Toronto, was a business manager for 2 Fortune 200 Companies (Stanley and Thermo), and a manufacturing innovator with Forbo Arborite, where a new construction exterior cladding was introduced globally.

As such, Tom understands the complexity of government, its processes, budgeting, the economy, business along with the trade-offs that exist.

Tom is competitive and spirited with a passion and energy unmatched. He is a fighter, a community leader and activist which includes his international tennis professional career and numerous volunteer efforts which truly stand out.
